Playing with Color

 little bear

I am taking Danielle Donaldson's Class:

we are playing with colors
so much fun

there is an art to mixing watery color
and
not having it turn to mud

I haven't watched the lessons on doing her animals yet
but last night i drew and painted the little bear above

i think the spirit of the class is in my blood
that and
wondering daily as to when our wild bears will wake up

I find it truly fun to play with colors

thank you Danielle!

Roads of Montana

Taking Daniel Donaldson's class:

I am watching her lessons on perspective and these two pieces came to life,

they remind me of my home state Montana so much!

Lesson Learned, use good paper

seems the 29 faces has me in a rhythm of creating faces

this one began as a pencil sketch
then watercolors on top:

ink sketch for meditative fun

the shading makes her look like she could use a shave
might have to rethink that technique ;-)

this last piece is a lesson learned
the paper is nice for sketching, ink and light washes
i tend to layer my watercolors
this paper warped and would not take layers in a blending way

i could not get effects that i wished for
and
abandoned attempting to take it somewhere that pleased me

lesson: use good paper that will take water and paint
i thought i had learned that lesson ;-)

also, i saw my first robin of the season today!

29 Faces, day 1

crown of candles
to light ending winter days
  in honor of Imbolc tomorrow:

Gaelic festival marking the beginning of spring.

well maybe if you are in California it feels like spring
but here in Montana i have snowflakes falling,
landing on my frozen creek:

yea
looking forward to sharing with all of you
and seeing your faces
thank you Alaya for being our lovely host!

A feeling of Familiarity

it is so interesting
when i create a piece of art
and
it looks like someone in my life

something about this reminds me of my dear friend Abigail and her girls
~

i started this as a loose watercolor painting
then last night i used copic markers to pull it all together
never married those two mediums before
it was fun

Winter Coat

two nights ago
i woke and had the image of a full winter cloak
in my minds eye

the one above is an ink drawing
freestyle
no sketch
a fairly fast piece
so freeing.....

neither of the coats in these two pieces look like the one from my sleepy state
i may have to bring it to life yet

Colors are Fun

born of the mossy forest floor
she rose with grace and dignity
creature not quite human
yet and earthling all the same

we are now cloaked in a thick blanket of snow:

Cloud Art

what to draw
what to paint
look to the sky and clouds
there is a shape
and so this animal came to be
shaped like a cloud that was over me
sketched with a water-brush filled with sumi ink
colored with watercolors
along a lake:

this is where i found inspiration for the animal:
you would have to turn the image on it's side to see it

Spring Deer

recently
visiting Karen Ruane's blog: Contemporary Embroidery

I enjoyed how Karen mixed stitching on paper with her cloth fibre stitching

so I thought to give it a try
stitching and watercolors on handmade Khadi paper from India

treat yourself to a leisurely visit at Karen's blog
or even sign up for her amazing class!
Her students are creating awesome pieces!

these last few months i have enjoyed using
DoTerra high quality organic essential oils.

I am enjoying DoTerra fennel essential oil right now.
one drop in a glass of water,
quite refreshing!

Used for centuries for its many health benefits, Fennel essential oil has pronounced antioxidant properties and is considered a tonic. It is often used to relieve indigestion (supporting the healthy functions of the stomach), to aid in any kind of digestive issue and to support improvements to the lymphatic system. Fennel's sweet yet spicy aroma is balancing and has familiar licorice notes.

I love the taste of it!

If you are interested in learning more
or trying it yourself
you can visit my DoTerra store.

note: detailed hair inspired by: western cedar foliage:

Meditation

feeling her watery depths
as she blended
with her world

this is the cover of an art journal I made following:

it was fairly easy and fast to make

art was made with
colored pencils then using a blending marker
and some watercolor paint

Mouse Friend

they are kin

~

Summer can be full to overflowing in the NW of Montana,
a time to do outdoor things that our long winters do not support.

One thing I have done is help Larry work on his tiny log cabin.

Staining windows:

 pre-chinking logs:

while he chalked around the corners of logs

so fun to see his cabin come to life!
