Where does Art rise from?

I was walking home from the neighbors

and looked up

to see a good sized black bear

down the road

looking at me

I paused

slowly began walking backwards

and 

it turned and walked into the woods

~

I call that a good bear experience

eye contact

and nothing more

~

Recently a friend mentioned that all my art 

is self portraits. 

I felt surprised as

I rarely draw myself.

The lady above is not me,

but it is my real life story.

A bit of my life, perception or surroundings does enter most of my art

Perhaps that is common.

This piece (above)

was an evening sketch. 

Pencil, then ink, then pencil and eventually watercolor washes.

It is not a self portrait or reflection of my surroundings, 

simply exploring technique and having fun.

Black Bear

I was driving down my road

turned my head

and 

saw a black bear

pop up in the grass full of flowers 

to look at me

pretty much

it was exactly like this little painting

such a dear memory

~

Summer Solstice ~

summer solstice 

time is here

time of bears and tiny deer

flowers cloak our forest floors

elves and crystals

treasures galore

~

inspired by a recent hike:

a bear that walked in front of me:

a newborn fawn in our woods:

 and my beautiful niece

we live in an area with deep seasons

NW Montana, USA

times like solstice are quite meaningful

and obvious

our days are long and nights are short

the earth is lush green

flowers galore

life comes alive with sunshine and rain

Knowing Heart for Sunday Sketches

there is a natural knowing

in the heart of a mother

to let love live

in her children

love is passed on to her children

lives on 

in their blood

in their heart

through the knowing

heart of a mother

I love how different choices of color 

are inspiring in new ways.
