Lesson Learned, use good paper

seems the 29 faces has me in a rhythm of creating faces

this one began as a pencil sketch
then watercolors on top:

ink sketch for meditative fun

the shading makes her look like she could use a shave
might have to rethink that technique ;-)

this last piece is a lesson learned
the paper is nice for sketching, ink and light washes
i tend to layer my watercolors
this paper warped and would not take layers in a blending way

i could not get effects that i wished for
and
abandoned attempting to take it somewhere that pleased me

lesson: use good paper that will take water and paint
i thought i had learned that lesson ;-)
~

also, i saw my first robin of the season today!

  1. Bonsoir chère amie,

Une belle avalanche d'oeuvres... J'aime ta sensibilité qui jaillit dans chacune d'elles.
Il est vrai que le support est important pour réaliser les aquarelles...

    Gros bisous ❦

  2. so nice to see a new face!
yes, good materials do pay off, i tend to use my brushes for too long, even when they're crooked and without a good tip i can't throw them away.
    nice weekend, x

have to use up. Worst of all I have not the front cover on many of them.. so I never know what lbs it is..

  6. oh, I hate it when that happens: not being able to get it right because of the materials you're using. It's still looking good though! Love your first face, she's so sweet.

  7. lessons I learned...devote time to art like you and I may get half way as good. Including what you see as a beard and I see as perfectly acceptable shading...these are fabulous. Just how many pieces of paper art do you now have? It must be hundreds.....

  10. I enjoyed seeing this variety of pieces. Yes, shading can sometimes give peculiar effects in both artwork and photographs.
I do like your first piece, the young girl with the lovely hair and innocent eyes, and the pretty pink-filled star sets it off beautifully.

  11. New faces again! Thank you, tammie! They are a kind of meditation to think about soul and character and how to meet different situations. The pencil drawing is very beautiful, and I think it was an adventure to make the colours! beautiful result! also the other works are nice and full of soul and energy.

Congratulation for your first robin of this season!

  13. Ha Tammie your drawings are wonderful, again a sweet face.
the paper will sometimes curl, you can iron the octagon smooth
    with an iron.
Wish you a nice day ..........
    dear greetings Christiene.

Ha Tammie je tekeningen zijn wonderschoon, weer een lief gezichtje.
het papier wil wel eens krullen,je kunt de achtekant glad strijken
    met een strijkbout.
    Wens je een fijne dag..........
    lieve groetjes Christiene.

  15. Oh good, faces! I'm glad to see more of them. They are beautiful! And I must say, I did not think of the girl in the pen and ink as needing a shave until you said so. Still don't! :)_
