Hiking with Friends

hiked to Whale Lake with friends last summer

(there was actually 5 of us, only 2 made it into the painting)

 I think it was 12 miles round trip and 100F

I really enjoyed creating this piece

so colorful against my milky gray winter

Whimsical Lucy

Lucy is staying with me for a few days

it has been grand wandering with her

we both like to explore who has passed by

i wish i knew what her nose knows!

she is much more regal than my sketch shows

we found our first mushrooms of the year

a true sign of spring

this is my dear friend Lucy

her human is Terence

Terence gave me a conk to paint on

(conks grown on trees)

one day it occurred to me to paint his beloved Lucy on the conk

 

original inspiration, she often walks and sits on logs:

 even on cold snowy days she loves to be outside

winter being her favorite season

(she is part husky)

that is why there are snowflakes in the painting

it was fun to seek to portray a real being in a painting

as i usually make them up

i think of my friends pup, Lucy:

she has snow on her nose in this photo

I created this sketch while flying a couple weeks ago

it took so many layers of paint until i was happy with it
