A Gentle Landscape

 

This gentle landscape came to life this week. 

Pastel colors dancing on the paper. 

A celebration of life as we find ourselves on the threshold of two years.

I bow to 2025, thanking it for its daily gifts (even the gifts that did not feel like gifts at the time) and enter 2026 with arms wide open, a smile and wonder in my heart, what precious moments will this new year hold?

Seems I have been working on this piece for months

a few minutes here, a half hour there, it is time to call it

complete.

Which means I can start on a new one ;-)

I feel quite happy to be in this season, the freshness of plants and flowers and lovely fickle weather.

I adore when two seasons mingle

the liminal space  they create.

There is a quality to life,

the air, soil and spirit of these times 

is unique medicine for ones spirit.

Pause breathe and enjoy.

Magical Realm

 

As the season turns, autumn to winter, 

I am taking another one of Páivi's classes, called: Joyful Coloring. 

It is all watercolor pencils. So drawing and then painting over the pencil lines with a wet brush. 

It has been quite fun and interesting.

Painting Flowers

 

Another flower landscape.

It is fun painting flowers on a snowy day.
The snow all melted away and it feels like autumn again. 

That is how autumn is in NW Montana, a lovely training for flowing with change, 28 times each day ;-)

I am taking a class from Páivi of Peony and Parakeet

I love her art and she is a wonderful teacher.

I woke to our second snowfall today, around 2"

Then it rained all day and still coming down into the night. 

My little birds were all wet:

And my fingers got SO cold. 

Tis glove season.

Feels so good to complete a painting.

I started this in July

life had some other plans for me, besides painting.

Now I get to start another painting, wahoo

There is something about the thresholds of seasons,

the air holds a different energy

two seasons greeting one another

dancing back and forth. 

A heightened sense of life perhaps. 

Here in NW Montana 

it feels as though we have truly entered autumn, 

summer has vanished.

When I do these paintings, I have no idea who will show up on the paper. Layers of color and design and waiting to see who lives in the shapes then bringing them to life. A bit like looking at clouds and seeing characters.

Summer Whimsy

 

• I had no idea this piece would be an abstract.
• The fun of the colors and details took over and this is what showed up on the paper. 
• Some of the fun is experiencing the part of me come to life that vanished when someone told me:
• Trees aren't pink
• mountains are not that pointy
• this is how to draw a flower

In those moments of someone thinking they knew what I was suppose to do with my art,  my innocence and freedom vanished. I am loving getting it back. It has a feeling of vitality and endless possibilities.

Summer Solstice

 

As we enter summer
Earth is lush green, overflowing with leaves, even some mushrooms
Sky a mix of soft blue, white clouds and gray clouds ready to sprinkle rain down upon us.
Lovely solstice to you whether it be summer or winter.

I was so immersed in this painting that I forgot I was doing a lesson

and

didn't follow the lesson. 

Makes me smile, as I love getting immersed in basically anything!

This painting took me days to feel that it was complete. 

Layers and layers......

pausing to consider. 

Turning a light on it when I passed the art table,

what does it need, I pondered. 

Today it told me what it needed 

and then it felt complete. 

Ah

That happens with most my art, but this one took longer to find what it wanted.

Let's Paint an Angel

These paintings were from a lesson named lets paint and angel.

They began as flower petals and then we turn them into an angel.

This last one was the first one I did. The paper would not support re-wetting previous paint to meld it with new layers. So I painted the two above on different papers, which was much more successful in that regard.

 I find it interesting to do one lesson a few times to see how each one is different. How new inspiration rises. How new ideas unfold.
