AC: Sanctuary

she finds sanctuary
in the heart of her being

she finds sanctuary
in the quiet stance and strength of stones

she finds sanctuary
in the air all life breathes

she finds sanctuary
in all living beings

Rock Kinship

feeling the heart and spirit of the rock
she closed her eyes
stilled her mind
and
light moved through her being
~
 *

yesterday i glimpsed a yearling black bear getting out of my small pond and trotting off through the woods

it paused to shake off some water

if only i looked out sooner to see if the bear paused to
splash about
or
 take a bath
or
go fishing

all 6 fish are still there

it was the size of a large dog
~
I never know what i will see when i look out the wee cabin's windows

Charlotte

i sat sketching her
and
my mom appeared in the drawing!
I showed it to her and she loved the bird on her head
and said the snake could not be her more
she said she once folk danced with a snake wrapped around her like this
i did not know
but i do remember her picking up snakes with glee
and huge tarantulas (spiders)
she has always loved animals
and
she is a beautiful redhead

D.C. Japan

our wonder-full
offered us the Drawing Challenge: Japan

I was all over the place with thoughts

first the carving above
wanting to create my own style of woodblock; not a woodblock but a rubber stamp

Then i hit the road for a four day wander about in Monana's Glacier National Park
one of the gorgeous places on earth that is full of the wild

I found a wee creek still abundant with flowers
in these late summer days

I was completely delighted
as though i entered a magical realm
and it reminded me of a Japanese garden
pristine and alive

i found rock walls
with geometrical holes in them

and

tiny caves

created through time and by critters

this reminded me of wabi-sabi, which there are many meanings for.

in the simple beauty of these rocks i will share this one:

Wabi now connotes rustic simplicity, freshness or quietness, and can be applied to both natural and human-made objects, or understated elegance. It can also refer to quirks and anomalies arising from the process of construction, which add uniqueness and elegance to the object. Sabi is beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear, or in any visible repairs.

Thank you for being our host Nadine!

DC: Upside Down

such a fun and unique challenge

loving yoga
even though after years i am still a beginner
upside down reminded me of a dozen poses

plus
long ago
a friends son
would put himself upside down every chance he got
i thought that was so Coooool!

note the large rock this is photographed on
is indeed purple
Montana rocks are awesome!

I found my first fawn of the season,

the tiniest fawn I have ever seen!

Tuesday we had a big storm
thunder for hours, then lightning, hail and rain
lightning hit a tree 40 feet from my cabin
wahoo, LOUD!
Poor tree!
bark and wood all over my yard and forest
it turned my modem 'upside down'
or rather off for two days, till a new one arrived

this is how it looked as the storm moved on:

with your thought provoking them:

Stone Cloud

I went away this week
Up the North Fork to Polebridge
stayed in a cabin named Stone Cloud

the name of this beautiful and wild land inspired this painting:

while in Stone Cloud
the mountains became her wings
~

today is the last day of February
which is the last day of Alaya's 29 Faces!

Thank you so much for hosting this inspiring event!

~
and yes
the stones around here can be quite colorful:

but the land was not summer
it is still very much winter here:

DC #125: numen

numen:
the spirit or divine power presiding over a thing or place
some call it a guardian spirit
*
I have always enjoyed the spirit of rocks
(Montana has such beautiful rocks, like the pastel ones above)

also known as:
divine presence
referring to the idea of magical power residing in an object or place

 portraying
or hinting at spirit in art
is one of my favorite things to do:

consider the spirit of a birthday cake:

when we pause to feel, sense, mingle with the numen in life
whether in a forest, beach, home, flower or stone
it is my sense that we quiet,
deepen our stance, listen, feel
become present,
our life force expands
the spirit of life is more tangible,
intimacy is born
~
please join me this coming weekend
January 18-19th
to post something in the spirit of the word: Numen
~
let me know in the comments and I will include your link
for others to visit you!

I look forward to seeing how you are inspired!

Playful Life

simple lines
expressing
the joy of life

taking walks
one often finds themselves
rock hopping
or playful balancing
or
being amazed at the various colors

and so they end up in some of my drawings
