D.C. Japan

our wonder-full
offered us the Drawing Challenge: Japan

I was all over the place with thoughts

first the carving above
wanting to create my own style of woodblock; not a woodblock but a rubber stamp

Then i hit the road for a four day wander about in Monana's Glacier National Park
one of the gorgeous places on earth that is full of the wild

I found a wee creek still abundant with flowers
in these late summer days

I was completely delighted
as though i entered a magical realm
and it reminded me of a Japanese garden
pristine and alive

i found rock walls
with geometrical holes in them

and

tiny caves

created through time and by critters

this reminded me of wabi-sabi, which there are many meanings for.

in the simple beauty of these rocks i will share this one:

Wabi now connotes rustic simplicity, freshness or quietness, and can be applied to both natural and human-made objects, or understated elegance. It can also refer to quirks and anomalies arising from the process of construction, which add uniqueness and elegance to the object. Sabi is beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear, or in any visible repairs.

Thank you for being our host Nadine!

  6. Dear Tammie - Your “rubber woodcut” print is a fantasy! I wish I could send telepathy via moon to the person two who is looking at and admiring the moon at the same time.

The rocks are so beautiful. They are the gift of time. I think your log cabin or you’re your way of seeing things shows that you’re wabi-sabi minded person. . This is my wabi-sabi post, if you feel inclined to, please have a visit. http://stardustenglishwriting.blogspot.jp/2010/09/thoughts-on-wabi-sabi.html
