Scribble Picnic: Cookie

in honor of my dear friend Kim
I attempted to paint her in an ethereal
starry, sparkly, other worldly, magical state
~
(unfortunately the scan does not show how sparkly this is. The bronze color is gold leaf and so pretty)

before the background, which do you like best?:

a couple of years ago she crossed over
~
she had a couple of nick names

while growing up together she was: Jade Lady
as she had a fondness for green
others called her: Cookie

when my son was born we called her:
Auntie Cookie

it was a bit emotional and deeply heartfelt experience to do art of her
~
Wednesday is:
and Michael chose the theme:
cookies

  2. A great tribute to Aunt Cookie. I like the background and the texture is so different from your usual style. Is it still all watercolours or are you collaging papers on?

    1. I learned this technique from Stephanie Law. It is in the last two posts as well and I am using it in a number of pieces at the moment, so you will see more of it. It is a mix of gold leaf with watercolor grounds and after dried it is painted with watercolors. And yes, paper.

  3. Exciting new technique!

How good and full of heart you made this artwork about Jade Lady - Aunty Cookie - ....

I can imagine, that is was touching all your feelings to paint this gem. But it is the best! Also November is a good month do think about "lost" friends....

Being very experienced you can work artificial with such a technique. Other simple painters would produce in such a technique just decorations for one minute to see and then please forget :)

The first photo shows really all the depth of this artwork.

    1. That is part of the reason I did the background as well as attempting to make it look like she is in the universe of stars and magic.

    Gros bisous 🌸

  12. You were blessed to have an Aunt Cookie in your life that could bring all of these feelings to the surface in her absence. A delightful tribute to a friend that brings to mind in own thoughts the friends we have lost and missed. Touching and beautiful ... both are beautiful but I like the first the best.

  15. Don't you hate how metallics just don't show up on scans or photos very well? It's beautiful as it is -- I can only imagine how it just glows and shines with the light. Ethereal.
