Tree Spirits

the wind shouted to the trees
fire is coming with this breeze
be mindful of your dying stance
for that will be your very last
then you'll stand just like that
a guardian looking over the land

a friend showed me a tree spirit
then i noticed many more

long ago, 1988 a fire raged through this land
leaving these mighty beings behind

  2. I am enjoying your landscape. It reminds me of several of Georgia O'keeffe's landscapes. I love the poem you wrote below it as well--it reads like a chant to the tree spirits. A beautiful tribute.

  3. Your watercolour landscape looks like the tree spirits are in conversation. Perhaps they are discussing your poem that came to them in the wind?

I too have seen tree spirits!

  7. Your ability to observe nature is awesome ... when mixing your art with it samples the love you feel.
We must raise the awareness of people .... nature is all we have ...

  13. Wow. You've really captured the desolation of the burnt landscape so beautifully in both your poem and your painting. Really lovely, and so glad I found your blog!

  15. Hallo Tammie,
Angstige momenten als het vuur zo dicht bij komt, goed als je dan een beschermengel hebt.
Een mooie schildering van wat ooit was.

  16. Oh, Tammie, I so love the painting. I captures exactly what I needed to see at this moment -- the heavenly peace and beauty of the mountains. I know that doesn't match with the poem or the burned trees, which simply hurt. But ironically, the colors, the mountains lifted my spirit. How odd. But I am grateful.

  17. Reminds me of the certain landscapes at Yellowstone. I never thought of these as tree spirits: it's good to imagine that the lovely plants that perished in the fire left a part of them to watch over the next generation....

  20. Even in death, your tree spirits make such a strong statement. Wonderful!

I'm hoping the summer will be gentle on the trees. No wildfires, please.
