the wind shouted to the trees
fire is coming with this breeze
be mindful of your dying stance
for that will be your very last
then you'll stand just like that
a guardian looking over the land

a friend showed me a tree spirit
then i noticed many more
long ago, 1988 a fire raged through this land
leaving these mighty beings behind

Some of my favorite neighbors are trees.
ReplyDeleteAloha
I am enjoying your landscape. It reminds me of several of Georgia O'keeffe's landscapes. I love the poem you wrote below it as well--it reads like a chant to the tree spirits. A beautiful tribute.
ReplyDeleteYour watercolour landscape looks like the tree spirits are in conversation. Perhaps they are discussing your poem that came to them in the wind?
ReplyDeleteI too have seen tree spirits!
Those are so cool tammie! Very dramatic!
ReplyDeleteLovely post and illustration!

ReplyDeleteEverything about this painting is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI have felt tree spirits, but did not have a name for them. Thank you!
just so touching....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. So amazing that they are still standing after all that time. Truly guardians...
ReplyDeleteHallo Tammie,
ReplyDeleteAngstige momenten als het vuur zo dicht bij komt, goed als je dan een beschermengel hebt.
Een mooie schildering van wat ooit was.
Groetjes Christiene.
Oh, Tammie, I so love the painting. I captures exactly what I needed to see at this moment -- the heavenly peace and beauty of the mountains. I know that doesn't match with the poem or the burned trees, which simply hurt. But ironically, the colors, the mountains lifted my spirit. How odd. But I am grateful.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the certain landscapes at Yellowstone. I never thought of these as tree spirits: it's good to imagine that the lovely plants that perished in the fire left a part of them to watch over the next generation....
ReplyDeleteahhh tree spirits home :) looks like they have an interesting meeting...lil cat is the boss :D ♥ Conny

So stark, yet beautiful. The story of life and death encircled here.
ReplyDeleteEven in death, your tree spirits make such a strong statement. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping the summer will be gentle on the trees. No wildfires, please.
This is gorgeous and special, I really do like it! =)
