Winter Solstice

the sun passed through the sky
low
to the mountains

tis the shortest day of the year

being filled with more night than day light
she
sat
with stars in her heart
at peace with the passing of the sun
~

I think this photo shows the gold leaf better:

last night's crescent moon was incredibly beautiful

I saw the sun's light on it more than looking at it as a
sliver of moon

somehow
noticing it that way felt like a solstice gift

sunlight at night

~
Lovely Solstice to you

Somehow making a piece for these thresholds is meaningful to me.

  2. A lovely holiday season to you and your family Tammie.

Today would have been my brother's 64 birthday, I've been missing him even more than usual today, he left this world much too early. I sang Happy Birthday to him this morning, hopefully he knew.

  3. The gold leaf adds a touch of sparkle to your painting. She is sitting very patiently waiting for longer days. I try to live in the moment but cant wait for the longer days to return.

    1. Thank you Maureen.
I like the short days of winter and the long days of summer.
I think some of us need more sun, something in our genetic makeup.

    1. Beautiful. I wish you many blessings of joy. Funny, I just mistyped joy as "you" - and indeed I wish you many blessings of you xx

    1. Yes, I think lots of people are happy for more light.
I enjoy both, and all the seasons and what they offer. Always changing and alive.

  7. Oh, many suns shining in the shortest day! I can even see each sun traveling slowly, looking at the lady.
I like the sun light on the skirt the lady wears and on the mountains. Have a wonderful day,Tammie.

    1. Yes, many suns was my intention. I can see why people see moons though.
I love your thought about them looking at the lady.
Thank you for enjoying this piece. Wonderful day to you too Tomoko.

  9. Wow, that is beautiful! She reminds me of a land mermaid. A landmaid? I love the details on the stump. And the colors in the sky remind me of Van Gogh. What I love most about the winter solstice is the promise of longer and longer days ahead. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Sending lots of hugs.
