he leaned his forehead against the tree
quieted his thoughts
and
waited
his heart melded with the trees heart
the tree let flow
hundreds of years of stories
stories about the birds that came to nest and sing
the fungi and lichen it gave home to
the fairies that lived beneath its roots
the insects that live in its bark
the lad came to know
those who rested in the shade of this tree
or found shelter from storm
he saw the lion that napped in its branches
and so much more
he learned that a tree lives a big life
a deep life
a generous life
roots embedded in the earth
limbs dancing with the grace of the heavens
this lad returned as often as he could
to rest his forehead and heart
against the tree

Bonjour chère amie,
ReplyDeleteJ'aime les mots concernant les arbres... Je suis une amoureuse des arbres. Très souvent, je n'hésite pas à serrer les troncs dans mes bras. Ils me fascinent.
Un très joli trésor que le magnifique dessin que vous avez réalisé... Tant de poésie, de rêves... Bravo !
Gros bisous
Thank you so much! I think so many of us love trees and have experienced a good hug.
DeleteThis is beautiful, Tammie, its words so meaningful and as lovely as the photos. It reminds me a bit of the story people only -- well, more of a story! Will you paint it in? Either way would be lovely.
ReplyDeleteI remember the Story People, they say such wonderful things with their charming art.
DeleteI do think I will be painting it. Thank you.
Your drawing is beautiful and I love the poem! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Rain!
DeleteHa Tammie
ReplyDeletehonderd jaar vertellingen mooie dingen over de natuur,

Groetjes Christiene.

One hundred years narratives beautiful things about nature,
With the ink drawing together a beautiful whole!
Greetings Christiene.
Thank you so much for enjoying it Christiene.
DeleteThis is a great drawing, and how I love your stories and explanations of the work. Yes, if only trees could talk we could hear history from there vantage point. Love how your creative brain works..truly wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind and lovely message.
Deletejust wonderful! i love your sketch for this week's theme!
ReplyDeletethank you~
DeleteYour lovely imaginary thoughts certainly come to life in this sketch Tammie. . . . . . . . gentle lines but powerful overall as only an oak tree can be. Your little oak leaves are exquisite, and one tiny acorn hanging on for dear life caught my eye!
ReplyDeleteMary -
Hello Mary,
DeleteThank you for your lovely message.
It touches me that you took note of the details and that one acorn.
Today I have begun painting it. Sometimes I have a struggle as leaving it an ink sketch or turning it into a painting.
Lovely whimsical piece for the theme Tammie!
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine
DeleteThis is a good friendship! O if mankind could understand the spirit of the trees like this loving boy....
ReplyDeleteI agree, if only.
Deleteoh my, such an decorative tree & quite unusual, which I like a lot. I sort of want to color it, maybe a lot of earth hues or a lot of bright greens and blues.
ReplyDeletehave a lovely day.
I want to color it too and have begun to this rainy day.
DeleteIt would be fun to see how it would come out if you painted it.
would be terrible of me if I choose to color this and use it for the next scribble picnic theme which is 'door'?
Deletejust thinking...
have a lovely day.
Hi Lissa,
DeleteThank you for asking. I have known you so long that I feel comfortable saying yes, color it.
I would ask that you don’t use it to reproduce for other people or for sale. I am pretty sure that it will be going into a book that I am creating along with the words. Have fun!
Tammie, this is so wonderful. I have often wondered what stories the trees in my woods could tell. So lovely to think of it this way.
ReplyDeleteHello Starr White,
DeleteSo lovely to have you stop by.
wonderful, romantic, drawn the fantasy tree!
ReplyDeleteA touching beautiful story
I love it!
Greetings Elke
Thank you so much for loving it Elke.
DeleteTammie,
ReplyDeleteWonderful story. I can picture the thoughts that the lad has. Having celebrated Earth Day - we know we need to appreciate all living things. And fantastic sketch.
Blessings
Janis
Thank you for enjoying the story and sketch Janis.
DeleteWOW, Tammie, this SOOO touched me somehow...your words and the drawing to go with it. It's beautifully written and the drawing of the tree so unique with its swirls and branches. I can tell you were really into this one. It's fabulous! Thank you so much for adding this to our picnic setting. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the new themes are up for the week, should you want to see those.
Tammie, how thought provoking your story is. I imagine the trees hold so much knowledge, wouldn't it be wonderful if they could share it as in your story. Your illustration is so perfect with it. Thank you for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it does appear that your tall and stately oak tree has been around for a long time, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that one little acorn still hanging on!
ReplyDeleteTammie, your tree and poem are beautiful....quite touching!
