I LOVE this piece! Tammie, thank you for visiting.. Sandhill cranes.. I am not familiar with them.. I would love to see the babies... Have you ever photographed them? fondly, Penny
hi Penny, I have never photographed the baby cranes, never seen them up close. If they notice me, they take flight. I find their calls to sound prehistoric.
I like the orange coat but I think the blue coat is a bit bossy and seems to be hurrying the orange coat with the pull of its arm, or so I think the story behind this. I really like the vibrant colors in this piece. I like how you always have colorful mountains in your drawings. there's no mountains in nyc, or at least not real ones so I can never say I've seen real mountains but I like your interpretations.
hi Lissa, i enjoyed your interpretation of this piece, fun to consider. You are the first person to tell me that they have not seen mountains. So glad you enjoy my interpretation. As a child, I had an art class and i made the mountains peaks very pointed. The teacher yelled at me in front of the class saying "look outside, do you see mountains with pointed peaks, no, they are rounded!". I do believe i cried from being yelled at and embarrassed, but i knew pointed peaks existed, i just could sense it. Sure enough, some mountains have very pointed peaks. Mean art teacher.
The mountains are lovely as is the green path......then we have the coats - what a story we have here - did they have owners? what happened to the owners - are they invisible inside the coats? there must be a magic spell? What enchantment you create.
yes, what a story and i can not tell you what it is. I just thought of coat and this is what came to me. Sometimes a painting will take days to tell me what it is about for me. I think you might be right, a magic spell.
I just love this! There's something very provocative in the imagery ... reminds me of a loved one who's focus in life was the surface-stuff. I'm enjoying reading the perceptions of others here and will likely return to read more!
I am enjoying hearing from you all, any thoughts and feelings about this piece. art touches each of us differently. i even thought this piece could be spooky to some people. so are you considering that a person who's main focus is surface stuff could end up in a realm with just that?
Oh, lovely! I love the thought of these two fine ladies promenading down a meandering meadow path. Also love the blue-greens you've used Tammie. I must try to paint with more vibrant colours. X
thank you Leena. yes they often tell a story and i don't always know what it is, like this one. I just let my imagination go, i bet with time it will have more meaning for me, that has been happening often to me. as though some part of myself is being expressed and needs or wants my attention.
You are right, Tammie. I did find this a bit haunting at first, even though the colours are so vibrant and full of life. The coats could be meandering down memory lane...ghosts from the past recalling life...
A lovely piece though. It provokes deep thought and makes us pause to ask questions! Once again, clever!
Your art teacher sounds like she had never seen mountains.
perhaps you are right Renee, perhaps he had never seen mountains only hills. I wondered about headless coats. thank you for your thoughts and perceptions.
Hi Tammie...so gorgeous..surreal and magical! The mushrooms are also very magical and the whole scenery carries a special vibrancy! Wonderfully inspiring as always! hugs V
Hi Tammie. I've just finished reading a book about a woman who becomes invisible. Wouldn't that be weird. Your painting would have made a great cover for the book! xo
I am wondering, what stories those coats might tell each oher? and I would love to follow them secretly, to overhear what they are talking about. strong image!
Oh goodness, I'm so enjoying all your watercolors from these past few weeks. How do you ever stay so inspired?! That's so amazing and wonderful. I wish I could be. These coats are awesome. They're so brightly colored, I love them! Very fun painting!
I love the colourful world you have created with the two magic coats standing so proudly in the middle. Valerie

ReplyDeleteI have a new set of watercolors, Grumbacher, if i don't mix the colors.... they are bright! lovely to work with, it is the transparent pan set.
Deletehaha, yes they do seem to have even a personality, the orange one a bit shy and dreamy, and a more self assured blue one.
ReplyDeletegreat funny pair those two.

i so enjoy how people find different things in each coat.
