our wonder-full
offered us the Drawing Challenge: Japan
I was all over the place with thoughts
first the carving above
wanting to create my own style of woodblock; not a woodblock but a rubber stamp
Then i hit the road for a four day wander about in Monana's Glacier National Park
one of the gorgeous places on earth that is full of the wild
I found a wee creek still abundant with flowers
in these late summer days
I was completely delighted
as though i entered a magical realm
and it reminded me of a Japanese garden
pristine and alive
i found rock walls
with geometrical holes in them
and
tiny caves
created through time and by critters
this reminded me of wabi-sabi, which there are many meanings for.
in the simple beauty of these rocks i will share this one:
Wabi now connotes rustic simplicity, freshness or quietness, and can be applied to both natural and human-made objects, or understated elegance. It can also refer to quirks and anomalies arising from the process of construction, which add uniqueness and elegance to the object. Sabi is beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear, or in any visible repairs.

Thank you for being our host Nadine!

wishing you a good week!
It is a beautiful park, i will share more photos, but mostly on my other blog: http://miztlee.blogspot.com/
DeleteI focus on photography there. Lovely week to you too.
Must have been a wonderful wander. I like your rubber "woodblock"as well. It looks like a plaster relief. - eric -
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful wander, a great variety of weather, hiking, reading, drawing, wildlife, photography, great time out!
DeleteRubber woodcut: perfect way of saying it.
Beautiful miniature in the technique of print!
ReplyDeleteAmazing stones!
thank you Dori ~
DeleteDear Tammie - Your “rubber woodcut” print is a fantasy! I wish I could send telepathy via moon to the person two who is looking at and admiring the moon at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThe rocks are so beautiful. They are the gift of time. I think your log cabin or you’re your way of seeing things shows that you’re wabi-sabi minded person. . This is my wabi-sabi post, if you feel inclined to, please have a visit. http://stardustenglishwriting.blogspot.jp/2010/09/thoughts-on-wabi-sabi.html
Yoko
fun to consider your telepathy thoughts stardust, thank you for that. I will stop by your wabi sabi post.
DeleteBeautiful way to find Japan`s ideas of wabi-sabi and simplicity in natural forms in the natural beauty where you live, and to create new forms from that!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by! Happy creative days!

Well done Tammie! I've just spent some needed time catching up with your blog :) Summer has a way of carrying us off to parts unknown- I love the photos of your own wanderings and wabi-sabi- yes I had forgotten about that - your stamp came out really nice- very much akin to a tree in a Japanese garden :)

how fun that you will try painting and then stamping
ReplyDeletei wonder too how the geometric holes came to be
