Tilt to Listen, Tilt to Receive

whenever i create a woman with her head tilted to the side
i think of my friends pup, Lucy:

she has snow on her nose in this photo

I created this sketch while flying a couple weeks ago
it took so many layers of paint until i was happy with it

  2. It was a good decision to put many layer sof paint until you were content with it, so he result has some deep dimenson. The eyes are really speaking! What a wonderful clear light blue in these eys! I think, these are your eyes.

Very sweet dog! Your yellow-brown companion with very true eyes.

  7. The skin color is so delicate, like a softly pink pearl. Also the pale colors of the lips are very fine.
    Also, cute puppy! :)

  8. Beautiful. I love how delicate and gentle she looks. I love portraits that have a tilt like this. (And, it is always adorable to see a puppy doing the same thing!)

I should follow your lead on this one, and keep adding more layers to my paintings because I have a bad habit of just adding gesso and starting over. I should try to not be frustrated and just hang in there layer after layer! (I used to paint on watercolor paper, and when things didn't work out I would tear them up...that's when my husband suggested I paint on wood ;)
    Have a wonderful week.

    I think that is a dog's "I'm listening" face.
Do you have an idea in your head when you start each lady? Love her eyes.

  18. hello everyone!
thank you for your messages and visits!

Dori, yes, the layers do add interest and dimension, so interesting to experience that! I loved the eyes at one point, then did not, so painted over part of them and began again... such freedom in doing that.

Anno, with the words catching you, they have caught me again too, thank you for that!

    you too Janice! thank you

Joan, you might enjoy taking one of Micki Wildes classes, she works with many layers of color and it is so interesting to watch and learn from!

Hi Sandy, I agree "i am listening, i am trying to understand". Also as for ideas, not usually. I just look at the paper and start with eyes, or sometimes a nose, or sometimes the mouth. Once in a while it is an owl or bunny etc that gets me going. But each piece surprises me.... that is part os what i love about creating my art!
    thank you for asking.

lovely day and night to one and all!
    Tammie
