I feel like a beginner stumbling along. Do I paint over the deer in yellow and under the trees too?
What is the order to coloring? Ha, so much to learn!
This was done on Canson Acrylic 185 lb. 12"x16" Montval paper.
Thick as can be!
No warping
accepted watercolor and acrylics

yellow is a color I have rarely worn
or used in art
it was so cheerful lovely and inviting

Such a wonderful -- and complex -- composition! Lovely textures, and so many charming details: I'm especially enchanted by the deer and the red-capped mushroom furthest to the right ... reminds me of one of my favorites from Disney's Fantasia. This one is irresistible -- what fun!
ReplyDeleteI so love the deer curled up there...and the face on the unicorn is just precious. great piece, lots to look at too! magic....have a great day! xo
ReplyDeleteanno,
ReplyDeleteah, you are too kind.
I do like this, because it is kind of magical and yes it was much more complicated in composition than I have tried and oh did i run into troubles! I can't think of everything in advance and plan on it. But I am learning..... and still so much fun. And when things are challenging there is a feeling of experience that is tangible, like life attempted and explored. I like that.
Heather ~
Fun that you enjoyed the unicorns face. I drew horses when I was a child... but it is like starting all over!
Tammie

Julia,
Thank you for your inspired message! It is fun to hear that you think I am getting better. I have had my doubts about this piece. Such a endeavor to fill in all the space with art! How wonderful that it makes you want to be in the woods, but maybe not cutting and hauling wood, eh ;-}
Thank you~
Sunny,

ReplyDeleteThe mushrooms and the curled up deer are too cute too... X3
Very magical and reminds me of those medieval tapestries... great job...
ReplyDeleteInteresting composition, The details are very good. Love the little deer curled up. What order to paint in for me depends on what medium I am using. With Acrylics I like doing the background first, with watercolor I do the background last.
ReplyDeleteLove this precious piece - it would be a great card or ATC. It is so soft and the fairy realm is so lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing the progression of this painting. I love seeing paintings in progress. I love the little mushrooms in the front.

so lovely!
ReplyDeletei love this so much!
ReplyDeleteeven in yellow!
xoxo
I like this painting, very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comments above regarding the little sweet deer curled up--so precious! I also really like how you've given the ground texture and light with the added flowers--I love how they are on the white path as well. I think it's the flowers that give this whole scene an ethereal quality. The layout of the composition as well is very well done--all the shapes and implied lines perfect, creating relationships between the different elements of your painting.
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammie~ You and your art are beautiful magical twins! xo
ReplyDeleteTammie! I'd love to visit your enchanted forest. The deer looks so cozy all curled up there. And the unicorn's face looks mighty regal. I love the dappled whites and greens upon your golden grass. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love how the finished picture came out. So whimsical and fun to look at!
